Mas não há como ter um jardim

Numa leitura rápida da lista das melhores frases de encerramento de romances proposta pela American Book Review (e recordada aqui), dou por mim a gostar mais de algumas escolhas referentes a livros que ainda não li, todas elas em tom menor e autodepreciativo:

22. YOU HAVE FALLEN INTO ART —RETURN TO LIFE –William H. Gass, Willie Masters’ Lonesome Wife (1968) [Esta é a minha preferida.];

Num destes dias vi citadas algures as últimas palavras de The Gathering, de Anne Enright, romance vencedor do Booker 2006, e também gostei muito. Não deixa de ser curioso notar como se articula com o fim do romance de William H. Gass:

"[…] because you are up so high, in those things and there is such a long way to fall. Then again, I have been falling for months. I have been falling into my own life, for months. And I am about to hit it now."
